According to research, there are a lot of problems confronting students in our various institutions of learning. Such as environmental issues, financial status, family background and many more. The various types of problems will be discussed in this topic.

Problem is part of life: an individual can face a problem, an organization also faces problems and society as a whole face a lot of problems as well. Either financially, economically and in other forms.

What is a problem and how do students define problem?

The Oxford Advanced Learners dictionary defined a problem as a difficult question to be solved or decided. Most students view problems as difficult questions to be solved or decided, unnatural predicaments encroaching upon their academic pursuits. According to the Google dictionary, a Problem is identified as a matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful and needs to be dealt with and overcome. “They are majorly financial problem” 

Naturally, human beings are meant to experience some problems at one time or the other coupled with variable solutions, but for a student who is being admitted into the higher institutions and preoccupied with prospects that every other student would be looking forward to.


Some of the problems facing students are emphasised below;

  1. Classroom size: Many areas of the country are facing classrooms that are literally busting out at the steams. These are classrooms that aren’t conducive for learning, this is a problem to the students as a distraction and will keep occurring
  2. Family Factors: The family factor is also known as the home factor, The family factor plays a role in a teacher being able to teach students. Research made it known that what is going at home will impact a student’s propensity to learn.
  3. Student’s Attitude and Behaviors: Student attitudes such as apathy and disrespect for teachers are Major problems facing most schools today. It is, however, a component of the family factors, that deals with how the family has brought their child up. Sylvester Oromoni has a case study
  4. Parents involvement: often, teachers find there is no happy medium when it comes to parental involvement.
  5. Accommodation problem: The hostels that were made to severe the students that were admitted. The accommodation problem is also one of the student’s problems, a student accommodating in an environment that is not conducive has to be forced into some illegal doings that will surely impact negatively in his/her education.
